A New Protocol in the Fight Against Oak Wilt
The current protocol for oak wilt mitigation has proven to be a failure (read more about that here). This protocol determines that after the oak wilt has devastated a community, the POA gets involved and starts enforcing rules. These rules may be requesting homeowners to remove effected trees or perform tree trimming and maintenance. In reality, by the time it reaches this level, the damage is already done, and this protocol doesn’t stop spread and further certain death and devastation.
The most effective plan is to have ongoing monitoring in place to detect and track oak wilt spread patterns in early-stage development, along with a mitigation plan. As part of oak wilt monitoring, we also believe that this plan should include a community coordinated effort. Unfortunately, a community coordinated effort is not possible at this time due to the factors listed below:
